she is a good looking bird

Camilia is a lucky girl! We kept two chickens in a large dog crate during the day with supervised excursions in the yard. Now that our coop is finally built they are happy to be out of the crate, but it worked well in a pinch.

My girls eat chick feed, but are always foraging around the yard eating bugs grass and other goodies. They eat table scraps, really anything. There is a great thread on here somewhere that lists treats that are recommended for chickens, most are things you have in your kitchen that will be leftovers.

She is beautiful by the way. Get her a friend to hang out with! She needs a buddy and you'll enjoy them. Maybe you could contact a local 4H club. They frequently have hens that they sell off at the end of the summer. That might be an affordable way to get another hen or two.

Good luck and

I love her name! She looks like a Camilla! I too would love to know how you caught her! Where does she sleep at night? If it is in that dog kennel, a raccoon could easily reach in and grab her. I would be very sad if your next post was that she got attacked.

My boss and another co-worker caught her. I was driving up to work, when I saw one shooing her away from the highway with his hat and the other waiting to grab her. She spent all day in an up-for-display pen. At the end of the day, no customers had taken her away, so I did!
