Nice find there!

Putting the tin side on the north side will help ward off some of the wind.

Although they might not be often seen, for safety's sake, I just thought I'd mention that coyotes do jump right up and walk (or run) down the tops of the block fences through well populated neighborhoods here, looking for cats and small dogs and other animals, and happily make their way along canal banks. I've watched them fence-jog many times in places a person would never suspect.

Along with adding some hardware cloth around it, adding even a 2' chicken wire skirt that runs along the ground, away from the coop, will often deter digging by other creatures.

I've never seen a coyote in this neighborhood but I know of people in other cities that have problems with them. We already have the metal cloth so like I said we were going to wrap that around for extra protection. I was also planning on burying some wire also just because the chickens will most likely dig as well and that could cause some openings. They are going to be free range in the day though so they'll have lots and lots of room

They're going to be happy hens for sure, and finding such a good deal on something even larger than you'd planned IS exciting! Gotta love it.

I've seen a lot of hen houses for sale on CL here in Phx, but so many are built enclosed and small, like something I'd image for use in heavy snow country. Much too hot for our summers.

Oh, lucky lucky you! That would have cost you over 100 in wire alone.
I cant wait to see your fix's and final design!
Awesome!

That is wild!! Is this in Phx you are talking about? Cyotes seem abundant in Congress this year, but they seem to stay back from the fences with big dogs. I am sure Cats or little dogs are just coyote bait around here.

LyonGirl: Great Find. Congratulations!! A little elbow grease and it is going to make a fantastic Chicken home.

Great find! That's the sort of coop I like! Perfect for the heat (it gets almost as hot here as it does there). One thing I would advise--paint that tin white at least on the outside. If the sun hits it, it will be about a gazillion degrees and will roast anything near it. I use tin for roofing and always paint it before putting it up there. It cuts down on the heat a LOT. Flat white or any very light color will help.

Yeah we are planning on painting it with white primer and then covering it with this speckled looking color to try and blend it in a bit more. The tin is the only thing I worry about with the HOA..the might not like it.

I'm actually over in San Tan Valley. I'm sure there are coyotes somewhere but I haven't seen them yet since we moved here. I used to have a friend who lived in North Scottsdale and everytime we drove to his house there would be coyotes running around..and I saw them in Mesa when I lived there but I don't know why I haven't seen them here. Exp. with all the open farm land in this area you'd think I was bound to see one..lots of people have free ranging chickens/sheep/horses/what have you.
