Found a DEAD quail in my pen.

Went out to feed last night and found one of my females dead. She had a bloody bottom. There was no bloody poop anywhere and no one in the pen has been acting sick.

This pen had 2 males in with 6 females. I'm thinking either I have an aggrestive male or she was trying to pass an egg. I removed one of the males that was making a low growling sound towards the other male. Do you think this is what it was?

She was stiff when I found her. No I couldn't feel any egg.

It is going to be hard to tell
That is I believe to many roos in the pen
I believe it is one too 5 or 6 hens

If this is coturnix its one roo to 5 hens is the maximum ratio you'll want to use (any more hens than that per roo and the fertility will drop).


a bloody vent doesn't (to me) sound like aggression. Sounds like she had an egg laying issue.

). But yes 2 roos to 6 hens is one too many roo and one too many hen (it may work with teh too many hen but too many roo just not a good idea at times).
