I found a chicken hiding out in a parking lot behind a chicken slaughterhouse in Philadelphia over the weekend. We gave him corn and water, but obviously don't have anywhere to take him/her and were hoping someone on here might have an idea. We'd be willing to grab it and get it away from the slaughterhouse there, and we contacted the local animal control center but it's likely they would kill it. Called Aark as well, and they don't take chickens. Is there anything we can do for this guy? Or does anyone know of an organization/person who would take it and care for it. He is missing quite a bit of feathers, but has been eating/drinking what we give him and doesn't seem to have any problems running around.

:( What a sad sight. :( Bless you for feeding it.....hope someone can help him... :( Why don't you take him and raise him? I am sure he would be a most grateful pet....poor thing.....

If I had a space for him (currently in an apartment with a dog) I certainly would. People keep telling me to call the SPCA and that it may just be best for him to be put down, but he doesn't seem to be ill in anyway just missing feathers, and I just don't think it's right for them to put him down. I'm just at a loss as for where to take him at the moment.

I googled chicken rescues in Philly and came up with the following:

Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, upstate NY (845) 679-5955
Farm Santuary, upstate NY 607-583-2225 ext. 221

They might be able to help and/or provide you a contact of someone who can help.

Do you have a small dog or cat carrier? Might try to get her in there with food and water and some pine shavings and ready for transport before something gets her. Poor thing.

Post something about him on Craigslist, maybe. Since you have a dog, it is likely you might have an old kennel? You could possibly keep him in your apartment, but it's probably not allowed :plbb

I would try and find a nearby farm, though. Where are you located? I'm assuming in Philly?

Yeah, philly area, but bucks county is one of the suburbs near by (also where my parents live) so I was hoping I could find someone who would take him/her, I just haven't had any luck.
