*They do like eggs. What did you do with him/her/it, dac?? Turtle soup??
P.S. Watch your fingers, they like those, too!!!
I started this thread mostly for entertainment.
I took it to the pond and let it go there. If it eats some of my fish, then so be it. It might eventually get big enough to eat.
I was doing the usual morning check in the coop: Letting some of the birds out, checking for eggs in and under the boxes, checking for snakes. I saw a dark spot on the wall of the coop under the nest boxes. The spot wasn't supposed to be there so I got the mulitpurpose grass rake (chicken herder and stuff raker) and raked it out from under the box. My thought was how did a turtle get in here, then I thought, this isn't a box turtle, it's a slider, then I saw its mouth; a baby snapping turtle. I showed my wife, took some pictures, and took it to the pond.
I don't it's much of threat to my chickens until it grows and then only if the birds decide to go swimming. My concern, as I and others have mentioned, is how did it get in the coop.
I have enjoyed your comments and that you have enjoyed the photo.
