Hey! So one of my EEs started crowing this week. At what age do roosters typically become aggressive? Right now he’s sort of antisocial but really likes to snuggle once you get him.

I’m hoping he stays nice. I’m just wondering if there is an age where the aggression starts if it’s going to. They’re just shy of 3 months old

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I've had it start as early as a few weeks old.. chicks that bite you when you try to handle them.. and happen as late as 18 months.. EE are my personal least favorite.. BUT ALL are individuals. I have no small people here.. it will usually get direct at something smaller and quicker moving FIRST and progress from there IF it does.

Most mine.. stay respectful.. anti-social to us is him respecting YOUR space.. learn to read his body language and how to display yours is my suggestion. Never EVER run away that triggers chase response in many species.

So by found a rooster.. you mean in your flock and not on the side of the road like so many others.

Hope he works out well for you! :fl

Agreed on the three month mark- when their hormones kick in they can act goofy for awhile. A light flick on the head if they bite or challenge you may be in order. Not saying inflict pain, more- get his attention and let him know who's boss! But, I know plenty of folks who have roos that NEVER act the fool!

Good luck!!

Haha yes in our flock. He has moments where he tries to boss around the girls but that is getting less and less frequent. Interestingly he doesn’t seem to be to dominant. He is the last one to get treats always because everyone else pushes him out. He also gets pushed off the favorite spot on the roost frequently. Right now he seems to be either very respectful or a total weenie.

This is Meatball. He seems to be still doing well. He is very respectful of us but sometimes picks on the ladies. He is definitely a rooster though. I just hope he stays respectful because he’s sort of grown on me.
