Found a turkey nest today . . .

I met a lady whose domestic white turkey (no idea what kind it was) ran off and joined the wild turkey flock. It stills comes back to her property to say "hi" and brings it young along for a visit. She says it sticks around for a few days and leaves again.

I don't know that it is illegal to raise "wild turkeys". I certainly wouldn't stress about it. The nest probably would have been raided by predators if it was that much out in the open.

Let us know what happens. And I don't think your eggs are old. It is hatching season NOW, at least in Redding it is.

It's not illegal to raise wild turkeys if you buy them from a breeder, at least here in Texas. You're not allowed to 'adopt' any from the wild, though, due to diseases, etc. Any wild populations that show up in populated areas and are being fed by people are usually euthanized byt the game wardens. Of course, if you take eggs from a nest to incubate on your own, I don't think anyone would question it too closely. I bought poults from a breeder at a trade show, but who knows where he got his. I asked if I was required to have some kind of permit to own them, but was told no. Since we have to be tested and buy a seller's license, it also requires we tell where we bought them from. I've never been required to show any kind of receipt for anything I've ever bought, though. Apparently, there are rules, but I think it depends on who you know and who's in charge of the event as to how strict they'll be on you.

I found one of my hen's nests today after she had relocated from her first batch I found. She was nesting down the street, so I had to follow her down a couple of hundred feet and then back into the treeline about 20 ft where she had started setting. She stood there watching me as I started collecting the eggs, and I felt so bad, I left her three.

I already had 18 eggs in the incubator, so it wasn't like I really had to take all of them.

So, thanks for all the opinions, especially the ppl that are on board!
I am really not worried about having them, there are so many ways to justify it.
Im really VERY VERY VERY excited to have them, because now I dont have to kill a wild/free adult for my table.

I just finally set the eggs this morning, as my chickens have finished hatching.
The quail eggs in the bator should be ready around monday, then its just the 6 turkey eggs in there.

I really hope I can get these things to hatch.

And for all the "Negative Nancys", its not like I went searching for a nest, I have these eggs because of human intervention around the nest area, the would surely die without me.
If you NNs were to find a hurt wild animal, would you just let it suffer because of some stupid law?
Well, I like to help, and in this situation, everybody involved is a winner, except the poor turkey I choose for my table . . .

Also, there is NO shortage of turkeys up there on my buddies property.
Id say they could almost be considered a nuisance, if anybody up there was a farmer . . .
