Found An Alien in the coop this morning ***UPDATE PICS*****

Wow. I hope your girl is ok! I've no answer either but someone on here will know.
From the title of your thread I was half expecting pics of a little green man... J/k

anyways, it could be her guts... possibly an animal is eating other peoples' chickens in your coop?

Zombies like human brains and organs. Not lumpy chicken gizzard things.

Actually, I saw another picture of something like that, and whoever posted it said their chicken was fine. Ew. I would not be fine.

To me (and keep in mind that I am by no means an expert) it looks kind of like an egg gone horribly wrong. Like the membrane formed, but the shell didn't. Although I have no explaination for the stench or where the yould would be. Unless the egg was stuck for a while and had started to rot. I've never seen or heard of it in birds, but I do know that snake eggs can actually start rotting before they are laid and when the snake does lay them they do not look like normal eggs (slimy, off color, etc).

Oh, just had a thought! Could it be possible that there is a snake or turtle nest nearby and one of the girls unearthed an egg and dragged it into the coop? It's a really really long shot, but the pics you posted do very much remind me of a broken reptile egg.

it call a lash it a clear out of the egg laying system something about a post -moult . it may result in damage to the ovaries , which may prevent futher egg production in your hen . hen have 2 ovaries , but only 1 product eggs sometime the hen may start crowing like a roo and even act like one

She laid an egg though today AFTER I found the alien ick.

As for other critters I live in NYC and haven't seen a snake in decades and no other hens around that I know of. My 40 x 100 property is completely fenced in and with four dogs and a cat (cat doesn't bother hens, is afraid of them) nothing else is making sense.

That internal laying pic used above came from me. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/41098_chicken_icken.jpg I've found stuff like that in several hens who passed from the same ailment.

The thing you found could be you getting lucky and the hen expelling her "gunk" rather than having it block her oviducts. I've seen it so many times, but I've never gotten lucky and had one expell it. It kills them slowly. They don't always get swollen abdomens, either. High production hens are known for it. Most people just lose a hen and have no idea what happened. We open them up, or did with the first several. After that, we knew the signs.

I have found items like that several times over the years and my hens were all fine and lived for years afterward.
Keep a watch, but try not to worry too much. (been there, done that)

Thank you Speckled Hen and others for your answers.

I feel a little better now. This hen is my most reliable layer and rarely missed a day even though she was already a year old when I got her 9 months ago.

If she stops producing eggs that's fine by me, she's earned the rest from all the monster sized eggs she's put out. I don't mind it one bit, just would like to her to live. Though I am quite sure she laid one yesterday after the gunk episode IF it was her her gunked it out. Like I said I only assumed it was her being she had been lethargic the day before.

I'm waiting for todays eggs and egg song and we'll see what happens. All the hens are feeling fine and doing their chicken thing. Which basically means eating their faces off.

I too have found and seen one of my hens lay these disgusting masses right in front of me. I am concerned though if this could be related to feeding the hens Bread? There was one that looked as if it had scrambled with cartilage and some other slimy nerve-like material. I do not have any roosters so there is no chance that this would have been an aborted fertilized egg, Then I found another that looked like it was cooked scrambled eggs rolled up in her gut, the way the mass looks, is as if it was churning in the gut, it looks just like cooked scrambled eggs ?
