I went to collect eggs and feed the girls today when I found my best layer dead in the nesting box. I haven't see anything or heard anything unusual, so this was totally unexpected.
Her corspe looks healthy other than her vent being discolored, a greenish brused color.
I listened to all other hens (3 left) and I don't hear any rattles or sneezing. Should I still treat them as if they have a respiratory infection?
They are all looking very healthy.
What can I do to protect the other hens?
It's getting into the 20s-30s now and I was told they don't need any extra heat.
