I am very new to chickens and have mine by default (neglectful previous owners). They are 18 week, mixed breed--13 hens and 1 Dom rooster. This morning I found one of my girls lying in the run on her side. When I picked her up she felt thin, she was a little fiesty, flapping and trying to kick. No others looked ill and everyone looked ok last night. When I brought her to the porch, I noticed she kept her legs extended but the are not stiff. At first I thought she might have had an inpacted crop, but I think it is just her neck. I did give her 1/4 tsp olive oil after reading several pages of posts just in case. I tried to sit her straight, but she falls over with her legs out, not curled under her. She did take a few sips of water, and I scrambled her an egg of which she took a few bites. I have her isolated. No signs of trauma. I have not seen any poop since I brought her to the house. She is kept in a "coop" which is more a shed with a dirt floor and perches (Until we get the real coop finished) with an attached run with a sand over dirt floor. They have gotten into my garden when I went to feed them yesterday. I don't use chemicals on my plants. The garden has mulch between the boxes. They have eaten squash leaves, I don't let them eat my tomatoes, and general scratching around. They eat grower crumbles. I have been mixing a few cups of layer pellets with the crumbles because I was given the wrong bag of feed and was running low on the crumbles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have learned so much already from everyone here. Thanks.

Well, she's still alive. She looks a little more alert but she still won't stand and falls over when I try to sit her up. She has taken some water and seemed really eager to eat her crumbles but she only ate a little. I washed off her vent but it was not pastey. She had one squirt of diarrhea after that but no poo since. I just came in from checking on her and she made a few sounds but didn't really move. So, I guess the answer is, I do not know what is wrong with her. If you find out anything about your chick. please let me know. I hope your girl is OK.

Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I was thinking the same thing after more research on this site. She does fit so many of the symptoms. I will see how she is in the morning when I get home from work. And keep a close eye on the rest.
