i just got a call from my wife telling me she found the nest of her easter egger and it has a bunch of eggs in it. how do you do the water test to see if they are good and should i candle them before i do the water test.

I found a nest under the wheelbarrow the other day and did the float test. If they float they are bad-if they sink okay. I ate mine.

The same thing happened to me! I had been wondering where all the eggs went.

I put them in a bowl of luke warm water. I put in some fresh ones too so I had something to compare to.They all sank to the bottom but the older ones stood up on end a bit from the enlarged air sack. There were no floaters and I know they couldn't be more than 3 weeks old so I still ate them

I CAN'T FIND my silly little hens hidden nest. She is about 23 weeks, and has been laying for about 3 weeks. As my husband has repaired windows in the barn, taken down boards that kept the blocked, the barn has lightened up. Hence- she keeps moving her nest to darker spots! Now, she keeps ducking me and I can't find her. Usually she gives herself away by clucking when I get close... I am on the hunt again tomorrow!!

she has gone broody so i grabed her off the eggs and found 24 of them. iput them in a bowl wrapped in a towel and took them inside to candle them, 7of them i was not able to see through so i returned them back to the nest, the rest were water tested and seemed to be good. the questionable eggs were given to the dogs. i have roosters that have been crowing for a couple of weeks now but i wasn't sure if they were able to fertilize the eggs yet. hopefully we will have some new chicks soon.
