I lost an 24 week old Australorp this afternoon. Went in to check for eggs. All the hens were busy scratching around the coop. Went back an hour later and one was dead on the floor. No trauma, missing feathers, etc.. Her neck was all limp. She was of course still warm because it happened so close to the time I found her. Not sure if her neck should be limp at this point or if its a sign its broken? I found her close to the wall so I'm thinking maybe she flew into the wall. *sigh* the aussies are such good hens. I guess I need to get an order in for some chicks soon or find someone local to buy from.
