Here is an article on bird CPR: http://www.wingwise.com/cpr.htm
(the only thing I would change on this article as to chickens is not to place your mouth directly onto the beak >this to do with zoonotic dangers)
I jut had to post when I read this as the same thing happened to a little cockatiel we had (only without breathing difficulty... we had searched and searched and searched all day for the missing bird and that evening as my daughter was sleeping I heard a rispling sound and followed it to the the tin can I kept the bird seed in ... I saw dd had left the lid off and as I took the can off the shelf and looked in I saw two little feet wriggling...
Thanks for all your responses and thoughts everyone. My little rooster is doing better but he is very spoiled and I am not sure about how healthy he is eating.
He was so thin from the cocci and after that feed bowl incident, I started feeding him whole grain toast soaked in rice milk to try and get him to fatten up a bit. Now when ever I go in there he "begs" for more. I have regular feed in there for him but he really prefers the toast and he is so skinny I hate to deny him. I made a scrambled egg too but he really likes toast better.
He does seem to be gaining weight though, finally.
thanks for the link dlhunicorn, I will file that away for easy access
He likes the mash with rice milk in it as long as I hand feed him-he is still so thin but he is putting on weight I think-
this is so crazy that poor bird and the two pullets with him. They are in a pet carrier on top of another cage and last night I heard this terrible crashing sound, well it appears the carrier rolled off the other one and came crashing to the floor.
Unbelievable!!
I put him in my sweatshirt pocket in front for a couple hours because he was all wet. He dried off and they are all ok now. I cannot believe the bad luck those poor little chickies are having.
Well today I can move my older chickens back to the shed because it has finally "warmed" up here. 10* for a high so the little ones will have more room and I wont have all the cages stacked up in the spare room.
I decided to keep them in one more night. The 10 week old ones are going to stay in the house but my adults are going to be moving out.
The shed has been insulated and I have lights out there, but my heater broke a while back and that is why I had to bring them inside. The weather is now warming up enough for the adults to stay out there. I just need to get them another heat lamp. It was so cold it kept burning out. I am fairly new to chikens so this summer I guess I will have to reinsulate and make better accomadations for them.
Thats what I say-those poor chicks
