Found my favorite silkie on the coop floor this morning!

You guys I want to cry right now. I've had THE WORST LUCK this year with chicks. Ive lost 13 total since the first week in February!

I started with a Coccidia outbreak from a shady breeder, then it was weak week old chicks, and now when I think Im finally through it. I find my favorite 7 week old Silkie dead on the coop floor this morning. I feel like I have a 6th sense about this stuff, I was telling y husband something is wrong with her, and he didn't believe me. She was isolating herself, and seemed lethargic. She spent all day yesterday being spoiled by mom! I gave her some electrolyte boost and some snacks to see if it would perk her back up and it worked for a while. Im so bummed! I don't know what to do now or why she died. I want to get another one, but I'm afraid shell be picked on now that she hasn't grown up with all of my full sized chickens.

Gosh, thats a bummer for sure! I hope that the rest of your flock remains healthy! Its so frustrating when chickens get sick / die - all the questions - "what did i do wrong" or "was there something that i could have done and didn't" - we've all been there and share what you are feeling right now.

You could get a necropsy done. It would at least give you peace of mind about the rest of your flock. I don't know where you are but in my state it's free. I just drop them off at the university and they do it with their students to help them learn

Our Silkies stay away from the rooster and other hens and never do anything to bother them, and I don't think our roo even really knows they are there.

I am so saddened to hear of your losses. I hope that it is not anything that could harm the rest of your flock. I, too, would be crying as well. It is so hard when you have such a big heart for critters as they can't speak for themselves, nor care for themselves so it is just hard to know what to do, how to do it and to figure out the why this is going on. My heart goes out to you and sending you hugs.
