Hi Everyone!
I recently began lurking here on the BYC board after getting my first chicks, so I decided to go ahead and join. I am a horse trainer by profession. For years, before I had my own farm, I boarded my horses and there were often chickens at the boarding barns. I loved them and certainly loved the eggs I was able to collect! Now that I've had my own little farm for a few years and am finally at a point where I'm caught up enough on fence work, etc., I decided it's time for my own chickens. A month ago, I bought 4 red pullets and 4 Australorps as 1 day old chicks. They have been SO MUCH FUN!! I have them in a brooder in my kitchen, but their permanent quarters are under construction outside and will be ready for them to move into in about 2 weeks. I am really enjoying all aspects of this journey with chickens! Mine are dual-purpose: egg layers and cuddlebugs! They are really sweet kids!
Looking forward to learning a lot here!
