Found Rooster

It is really hot today and I gave Frankie 1/4 of a popsicle. He really liked it. Is that ok maybe a few times a week
Sure, just don't give him too much sugar overall. It will throw off the enzymes in his digestive system and cause a yeast overgrowth. But crushed ice with a little natural fruit like strawberries is a good option to cool him down.

Do you have pictures of him? Would love to see him, and I'm wondering how old he is. If you post pics we may be able to help you figure out his age, also something about his breed, and/or his mix, if he's a mixed breed.

If he's young, he may have a drastic personality change once puberty hits.

Bless you for taking him in! I think it's criminal how some folks abandon animals.

I would try finding Frankie another friend. Chickens don't do well kept alone.
Yes, since you are going to keep him, even just two hens would be good company. Three can be kept more easily than one. The little bit more you would spend on food will be amply repaid in eggs and their well-being. And if the hens are older than he is, it really really will help him to learn manners and respect from them! If you don't want more chickens, just be sure to eat all of the delicious eggs.

Please post some pictures of Frankie so we can see how old he might be.

Hello and Welcome to BYC!
He would be happier with another chicken for companionship but will adapt to being an only child. If you show him that you care about him and spend some time with him he just may make a good friend for you. I have a rooster that I want to make a harness for so I can take him for walks around the property here.
I never thought of a harness I can’t figure how it would work, but it would be funny walking around with a rooster on a leash. He seems to enjoy hanging out with the cats and our elderly blind dog. But he does like to follow me around. We have almost 5 acres but he does wander off the property.

Other animals can make good company as well. We have a little house hen named Butchie who needs special care. She prefers the company of our dogs to other chickens.
