So I was down in the coop a little while ago and my favorite hen was up in the nesting box, and she appeared to be pecking at something. I went and looked, expecting to find a broken egg. Instead, I found this weird meaty looking skin thing?? I have no clue what it is. I don't know who laid it or anything. It could have been Nellie (the hen who was pecking at it) but usually I can tell when she's laying something, and she was making more noise than she was actually trying to nest and lay. But she's 3 years old, along with 3 other hens. She's a SS, but she is in really good health and lays pretty well for a 3 year old hen. She hasn't had any problems, like ever. We also have 3 red sex links, who are almost 2 years old, and one has been having issues laying lately. My mom is always giving her waterbaths or whatever to get whatever is stuck inside of her out. And lastly, we have a buff orpington, same age, who has recently been squashed by a rooster and has been acting kind of strange and walks gingerly and stuff. (they aren't used to roosters, we have a group of butt-pickers who are in with a big light sussex rooster since we don't seem to have the heart to kill them yet)
All the chickens in the coop seem fine, i'm just really confused as to what this is, is it 'lash'? And who would have laid it...?
