Bless his little teenager heart. They try to act so tough and so uninterested in family, etc. , but really that is very important to them. That picture is priceless.
He's 14 soon to be 15. We've had one hatch and the whole family was able to watch it before my husband left for work. Since then I've overheard the teen talking softly to the chick saying "Gee, that was really hard to get out of there huh?" And my DH has called a few times from the office wanting to check on it and ask me to send pictures. They pretend to be grumpy old men but at times like this, they're just big ol' softies.

Couldn't agree with you more on this one...
Everything we have here in terms of animals my husband acts all tough and grouchy. Doesn't want to touch/pet them. Doesn't want to deal with them. Acts all 'THERE JUST ANIMALS AND EXSPENSES' attitude.
But the minute I am not looking he is petting them, talking softly to them, and doesn't want to see them leave when they have too(pigs going to the butcher).
We had a baby lamb pass the other day. One I just picked up from Iowa sale. Anyway hubby kept being tough and wouldn't get close to her, wouldn't even help me feed her. Well when she was really bad and not sure if she was going to make it, I seen him holding her and petting her.But the minute he seen me see him do that he stopped and denied it. How can you deneie it when you are still holding the lamb on your lap!!!!
I love that picture --
My DH started with this " there only eggs " everytime he looked in the bator - but when we were able to candle and see movement for the first time he was in the room EVERYtime I went to candle and kept telling me everyday what day we were on with the eggs -- than he would start giving me "bator reports" and because the bator is in his nascar room - once they started to pip he was in the batorsitting LOL as soon as the ducklings hatched he called from work daily to check on them and everyday since than he checks them everymorning and right when he gets home -- this coming from a man who says we have to many animals - he just cant admit he loves it as much as me LOL
your son will grow up to be the same way as my DH LOL
