Went to make some fried zucchini and cracked open an egg and found this inside. I have asked on local groups and some people are saying its a worm others have mentioned its some of the ovary tract or a lash egg inside a regular egg. It isn't moving but I did have the eggs in the fridge if that makes any difference. Not sure which hen laid this egg but my hens that are currently laying are 2yrs or a bit over 2yrs of age. We did use Wazine back in Jan or Feb. We do have a mixed flock where we have hens that are around 2yrs of age and then have 3 that are about 20 weeks of age. They have complete range of our backyard and always have access in and out of their coop. The coop is where their food and one waterer is located along with nest boxes and roost area. The floor of the coop is a dirt floor. The roost area is sand. I clean the roost area out every other day and I haven't seen worms in their droppings but I haven't been closely examining them either. Any thoughts on what I found in the egg, should I be concerned? Also should I go ahead and worm the flock? I heard to deworm once a year but others are saying every 6mths, also I was told not to use Wazine since I used it in Jan/Feb. Thank you in advance

It looks pretty gross. I would guess either a really big meat spot (piece of skin), a partial egg, or a deformed chaleza.

Don't worry, all of these are just glitches. If they happen again, you can begin to get concerned, but I hear that worms can't get inside of eggs because they are in the intestines, not the reproductive tract.

Best of luck!

Round worms can and do get into eggs. I have seen it many times. That is not a worm. I agree it looks like a lash egg inside the egg.

Thanks for letting me know! I certainly wouldn't have wanted to eat an egg with a worm in it thinking it was just a normal egg.

Thank you all for the responses! I had so many people telling me it was a worm and I was freaking out thinking if it is a worm like that how bad are all my chickens then! I am going to go ahead and worm them with some Valbazen after doing research on here all day yesterday simply because it has been over 6mths since I wormed them (used Wazine then) and we have 3 19/20 week olds that have never been dewormed. With my reading I found that living in hot and humid areas you should worm them more often and we are in Eastern NC where its been really hot and humid.
