Hi all... I'm in Ontario, Canada (ie. it's fall here now), and found the strangest thing today in the chicken run. It's a glob that looks like a hybrid of a fat worm (but it's not a worm) in the shape of a stool... that looks like blood encased in blood. I found 2 of them in the yard and no chickens otherwise acting strange (besides one has a persistent cough that's coming back right now). I don't know whether it's intestinal lining or disease/parasite! Anyone with experience?

NOTE: I am relatively certain it's not tomatoes (the had tomatoes maybe 2 days ago but prior had been eating tomatoes for days, and I have 17 chickens so I wouldn't have found just 2 of these randomly later on); and they haven't had berries or beets or anything like that. It honestly looks like blood. Bright blood on the outside, and darker blood on the inside, that's why I tried to 'open'/smear the thing to take the second picture.

I was expecting to see shed intestinal lining. This is something I've never seen before. Whoa.
Ya I don't know what to make of it either. When I zoom in, I can almost see bubbles on it? I have no idea what this is. I did have one rooster recover from a near death experience due to worms, and so they've all been on worm medication in addition to Tylan (vet's instructions) and electrolytes for the side issue of a respiratory problem. Seeing this is shocking, it was bright red and I could see it from 5' away so i ran to inspect because it was so bright red.

When I look closer at the smeared one... it's like there are little dots inside. I have a few hens that should've started laying by now and aren't. I don't know if there's any connection?
