Sorry for you loss and I hope you find the culprit! I have a ground hog that has lived on this property for many years! My chickens talk to him in the summer months while he just continually eats his berries and grasses. I think they are vegetarians so you shouldn't have a problem with them, I'd guess a coon killed them and or an owl!
