I received this cutie this morning from Murray McMurray Hatchery......out of sixteen chicks, one was dead and one (this one pictured) can't stand up. She walks on her knees. She is eating great and drinking. The toes are curled up and crooked. Can I splint the toes? Should I do the legs? What is the best way? First time dealing with this.

Thanks a million!

That appears to be a riboflavin (vitamin B2) deficiency, which causes curled toe paralysis and walking on knees or hocks. I would put poultry vitamins in your water for all chicks or just give the little one PolyVisol without iron baby vitamins 2-3 drop by mouth daily. Another option is using an all B Comples tab crushed in food or dissolved in a gallon of water each day. Here are 2 links to read:

So I ordered the Quik Chik vitamin supplement from the hatchery. It has 500mg riboflavin. Should that be enough?

Thanks

Use it as directed, which I think is 1 tsp per gallon. If you can get an all B complex tablet today, or an inexpensive riboflavin supplement today, I would start it. Soft eggs or liver is another good source, just ground up a small amount with a fork. The reason for the rush is because the vitamins don't always help after a length of time.

Is a scrambled egg ok? Cooked I assume? And I have poly-vi-sol on hand , but it has iron :(

Scrambled and chopped eggs, or biled and chopped. Go ahead and use the PolyVisol today. Many chick vitamins including Poultry Nutridrench contain some iron, but don't use it often.
