We have four female ducks. They all quack wildly so I very much assume all are definitely female. But we very rarely -- only a handful of times - have gotten four eggs. It is usually three. We have a pekin who we know lays as we've seen it happen. Then a blue Swedish and two runners, who haven't been caught laying directly.

Is it normal to not have everyone laying? They are 14 months old and fed a laying pellet.

It is not that unusual to just get three a day from four ducks. The Runners may lay daily, but even Runners take a day off here and there.

Swedish and Pekin in general do not have the reputation of daily laying that Runners do.

How long have they all been laying?

Oh, and you can find out for sure. Pick three colors of food coloring.

Dab three of the ducks with a food color (add just a little water, soak a cotton swab and gently dab their vent at night).

The eggs from the dyed vents will have little streaks of color on them.

Then you'll know who laid which.
