Four foot fence or 6 foot fence?

We are going to be putting up a fence here soon. I would like to put up a 6 foot fence down back further and then between my lawn and my neighbors lawn put up 4 foot fence. I think it would just look better then the 6 foot fence in that section.
Will the chickens make a habit of jumping over the 4 foot sections? I don't want to put it up and then have to tear it down and put up the 6 foot fence.

They'll go over a 6' fence if they have reason to unless you have very heavy breeds. My bantams can make 16' up. It helps if you don't put a solid rail at the top. They prefer to have something to land on and hop down from. A 4' fence most chickens will go over if something spooks them or they just decide they don't have enough space to forage on their side of the fence.

I have 6' and maybe once a year I lose a hen over the top.

(I have an agreement with my Golden Retriever that if she stays out of the run she can have anything that is stupid enough to leave their safe, secure home)

I have a five foot fence (chain link) around the chicken yard and garden. In two years I've never had a hen fly over it. They are all heavy breeds. One time I was in the chicken yard leaning on the fence and looking out into the woods and one of the Golden Comets tried to fly up to land on top of the fence next to my arm. I just took a hand and gently pushed her back before she landed, although she was at the height where she COULD have landed on top.

I have a 5 foot chain link fence on the inside of my yard so the dogs can not get the chickens but on the back side of our property I only have a 4 foot rail fence. The chickens have never flew over the chain link, but a few have jumped over the 4 foot.
