Who layed the white egg? All my girls are finally now laying. I got four eggs today-- 3 brown and 1 white. Who layed the white one? I've looked up the breeds that everyone believes I have, but they should all be brown egg layers!!!

I'm thinking it's the silkie. The egg doesn't look white-white, like a grocery store egg, but a creamy white.

The reason I didn't think it was my silkie is because I thought she was the first to lay an egg (and they've all been brown or tan) but I guess she could have just been sitting on another hen's egg?? You think?

Silkies are usually the last to lay and they tend to lay a cream colored egg. If that's a delaware, hers will have a soft pink/rose color. The darkest probably came from the BR.

The smallest, light colored egg is from your Silkie, and the darkest brown egg is likely from your Barred Rock. And your right about the Silkie sitting on another hen's eggs. Silkies are the broodiest of all chickens.

And broody or not, sometimes young birds around the time they start laying, just hang out in the nest box. Sometimes before they're actually laying, sometimes for a few weeks after they start. They're adjusting to what their body is telling them, and the nest box just seems like a good place to set a while.
