Hi Everyone, I've had trouble determining what I have so now that they're older - I hope it's easier to gauge. I'm a first time owner and can't keep the roos. I have my suspicions but am wondering what you think. They're around 2 months old.

How many roos do you see?

Obviously Butterscoth - in the centre - is a roo. I've known since I brought him home AND his recent crowing in the wee hours has confirmed it. The rest I'm not sure on. Also if you know what breeds they are, that would be wonderful - I know I have a Columbian rock, and two barred rocks but the rest I'm not sure on.

Better picture of the bottom two chicks who I think are hens.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your help! Since Butterscotch has crowed, I'm hoping to discover who is a roo before they start crowing too and drive my neighbours mad! P.S: They were all supposed to be hens

They are all very nice looking chickens!

I have had so many times where my hens turned into roosters or roosters turned into hens. Prince turned into Princess and Soprano was a rooster.

Lower-class hens tend to develop more slowly than the top-man, so you'll have to look for less obvious signs. Roosters tend to stand up straighter, walk more firmly, and are often more bold than hens. One of your Barred Rocks looks like it could be a rooster, but the rest look like they are hens.

The right pullet in the bottom photo is very pretty. It looks like a crele coloration.

Good luck with them.

Its true. We were suppose to get 6 pullets from the feed store and 4 mixed chickens from the feed store (so it should be two roosters and two hens about, right?) and we ended up with two hens and 8 roosters.

@ Junebuggena Oh no - you think these two are cockerels too? That would mean they are all roosters! I thought for sure these two were hens! :-(

The paler barred rock with the large comb might be a roo. Can't tell yet.

He ACTS like a rooster and is quite mean - especially to Butterscotch, the big obvious columbian rooster and top man on the totem pole - so I think he probably is a cockerel.

The Barred Rock has too much white, the mixed cuckoo chick looks really flashy, and those combs are a bit too pink for me to call them pullets for sure. They definitely look more like boys than girls. I have 6 Barred Rocks. Their combs were still pretty yellow until about 14 weeks old.
