I have a sex link cross rooster that I am growing out for harvest. In the past couple of days, i have noted he has a pretty substantial case of fowl pox.... the black sores on his face, comb and wattles. Does having fowl pox render the meat unusable/unsafe for consumption? Thank you.

I think as long as they don't have a secondary bacterial infection, which is rare with dry fowl pox, it's okay to eat the meat. Does yours have dry fowl pox or wet fowl pox?

Right now, it is dry from what I can tell. When you say secondary bacterial.... like skin infection or respiratory (or both)? He looks pretty horrible. Up until today, he was milling around eating with his hatchmates. I am considering bringing him up to a hospital cage... but then I worry reintegrating him when we are done.
