I'm a new chicken mom and starting to worry after seeing numerous post concerning fowl pox... should I vaccinate my 14 week old chickens as a preventative measure? There are no avian vets in my area, so I would need to order the vaccine online and do this myself. Is this precaution recommended and are there any other common illness prevention measures I should be aware of? I still have never wormed my girls, since I have seen no signs of worm infestation. Should I do that soon and regularly, or wait until there are signs like weight loss?

Where you live in NY, there probably is not a great need for fowl pox vaccines. If you lived in Florida, Texas, LA, or MS, a vaccine woul probably be worthwhile. Here is the Ohio valley, I have seen exactly 1 fowl pox scab on a hen. Up north, pox is not a very big problem.
