My little Red Star got caught and released by a fox yesterday. One leg is useless - just dangles. There are a couple of small bite wounds up in the "hip" area, barely punctured the skin, but nothing that seems devastating. The leg itself seems undamaged, so I'm assuming some kind of injury up in the thigh area where the small puncture wounds are.
She has been in the house overnight, and has been eating and pooping, though doesn't seem to drink much. She is panting heavily. Mostly she is lying on her side, but attempts to stand when she poops. With help she can stand on one leg.
I'm not really sure about the extent of her injuries or if she's distressed and permanently injured to the point where I should put her down.
Is it possible she might recover?
Could she recover and just have a bum leg?
Any advice appreciated. She is something of a 'pet' - not strictly livestock - and I just want the best outcome for her.
Thanks for any advice.
