Thank you all for your responses. I've secured the whole hutch with hardware cloth all the way around including the underside. My rooster returned the day after so at least now they're two. Going to find them some more lady companions as soon as I can. The poor roo still seems pretty shaken as he has completely stopped both crowing and mating but the hen has settled in and started laying again.
I can't really be mad at the fox it's just following its instincts but I do hope it will find its food elsewhere in the future.
