Fox bite - huge chunk of missing skin.

Greetings from a brand-new member! One of my free-range 2-year-old Barred Rock hens was just saved from a fox by my gallant rescue Golden. I have not been able to examine her fully, but she has a visible wound which includes missing skin and visible muscle tissue. Dusk is coming, so I will soon be able to isolate her and examine her closely and treat her as needed (I'm an RN), and wanted to know why I should not use antibiotic ointment which contains pain medication. I would have thought that pain reliever would reduce her anxiety at the very least. Does anyone know why the pain med is contraindicated?

Thanks so much!
