Morning after good Friday we woke up to find something had gotten to our beloved muscovies. We have had these for about five years and we don't lock them up at night because we live on acerage with houses surrounding us left right and centre plus the dogs scare off the foxes. 2 ducks where completely decapitated with their neck region mauled, 1 half decapitated and the other 3 with chewed up necks (still alive getting cared for). None were missing which made me eliminate the fox as wild animals don't kill for fun, but is their a possibility it was a fox? Here in Australia the only predators towards our poultry at our location are either foxes or dogs. Anyone have any ideas? And I stand to be corrected on any of the statements that I have made.

first off, i would suggest locking your birds up at night, no matter how good your dogs are at guarding.
And if your dogs are 14/7 outside, and chase away other things, is it possible THEY got them??

Nah our dogs sleep in the laundry but the scent of the dogs seem to somewhat deter the foxes. We're buying pig wire to put under a chock tractor we have to keep the ducks in at night. Just wasn't sure if a fox would maul an entire flock of birds and take none, the birds were found dead within about 1 metre of each other so what ever did it didn't even try to take any?
