foxtails and chickens?

Hi - last night I dub up a whole bunch for tall grass with seeds (foxtails) that my dog had been eating and had to have minor surgery due to. It looks like it might make good bedding for the chickens. Can I toss it in the coop? Do Chickens have problems with this stuff the way dogs do?

My plan is for my Delightful Dozen to totally devour all of the foxtails in my yard to avoid any further vet bills. I doubt chickens have problems like dogs do, but maybe someone else will have more experience with this! I am a newbie to chickens.
