Fragile and easily breakable feathers

I have a Silkie hen with feathers that easily just come out. Her back is bare from the rooster mounting her. If I pick her up the feathers will easily come out. They are dry very weak looking feathers. I had her in house til all the feathers grew back. Put her back out but slightest attention from rooster her back feathers are all gone again. Is there something I can do?

You might try a chicken saddle to see if that helps. Or keep the rooster away from her.

I think she’s around 2-3 yrs old. Have had her about 8 months maybe. She came to me like this. I just didn’t realize what was happening. I Feed them 16% protein flock feed from Coastal. Treats of cantaloupe, apple, corn, mealworms! Scratch.

You might want to try a higher protein feed, go easy on the treats and see if her feather quality improves.

I wasn’t told she was a frazzle but what’s wrong with the feathers?
