Freaky looking egg

I wonder if anyone can help. I've just been to collect eggs from our Lohmann Browns and found one soft shell egg and this other really weird egg. Can anyone help with what's caused it and what is wrong with the hen that laid it? The three hens are all about 2 and a half years old and we've never had any problems with them. Thanks.

Boy, that dark one is really weird, not sure I've seen anything like that posted before.
It almost looks hard boiled thru the broken part of the shell.
Did you open it further, and take more pics of all side of egg and insides too?

Do you know, I could barely look at it let alone touch it. The dark purply red bit was almost like paper and it was peeling off. One of my chickens did lay a lash egg a few months ago which was pretty revolting but this one has freaked me out a little bit more than that!
