I have a 10, almost 11 month old Barred Rock Cockerel in need of a new home. He's been pretty good with my flock of 8, but has recently started to not get along with my one hen who is 2 years older than he is. She just won't submit to him, and it's causing some issues for her. He has never challenged me, and is usually gentle.
The only reason I have him, is due to getting pullets last spring, but he wasn't a she. We kept him, because..well...he was cute and was doing well with everyone.
I don't free range, due to eagles, hawks, and stray dogs in the neighborhood. I think he would do even better in a free range environment, where he could put his instincts to good use in protecting a flock. He's a beautiful bird.
