Welcome home! All 24 made it into lockdown, so here’s hoping we will start to have progress soon!A good handful are Bantams so I’m keeping a close eye on them. Good thing we don’t have to be anywhere today!
I'd rather not, but occasionally I will remove a chick if I have to, even if there are external pippers. What I do is get a spray bottle with warm, no hot or cold, but warm water. I am quick about it but I reach in and get the chick out and quickly spray once or twice with the warm water, like a mist on the eggs and close the lid. (Avoid spraying newly hatched chicks) You are merely trying to replace any moisture loss from opening the lid.Oh good gracious! We're sitting here in the gaming room, and we've heard a little 'chirp'! Someone's trying to come out already, presumably a Bantam. Here's hoping everyone hatches healthy!
I wish I'd thought to tell kiddo to separate Bantam from standard eggs upon hatching, but if they hatch early and the standard eggs haven't externally pipped, is it safe to remove them from the incubator then? Or would it be a risk if they've internally pipped?
