We finally finished the duck's run for day use and put a pool in their for them. They have a ramp and concrete block and can get in and out when the mood strikes. How old do they need to be to have it in there filled all day? They are 6 and 7 weeks old, pretty much feathered. Thanks!

Mine have been living in the stream here since about 4 weeks (belly feathers only). Given the option mine stay in the water more than on land and seem to enjoy themselves immensely. I'm in Maine by the way and the water is still very chilly, but these ducks seem pretty waterproof and have plenty of fat on them.

After seeing them go in the water hour after hour I'd feel simply awful about keeping ducks without a full-time swimming hole for them.

@Kangasox 6-7 weeks is old enough to have a pool set up as long as they can safely get in and out. sounds like you have it all covered with ramp and concrete block. I'd be sure to keep an eye on them the first week to make sure they are getting in an out with out any problems being youngsters they can get themselves into alot of trouble.

I know some folks say when they are fully feathered, which can be 8 weeks or so - I think Miss Lydia is right that they are probably good to go, and it is always best to monitor things, because ducklings can get themselves into preposterous and often life-threatening trouble.
