We got about 15 chickens from a friend as she was done with her chicken life. 1 was a free roamer bc he got kicked out of both runs. But with us he is in his own run between our other two runs, because we didn’t want him to roam being new and didn’t want the other roosters to keep attacking him. He did well, then we got rid of the roosters in one run so we put him with those hens. Now he is sooooo protective over these girls that he comes after us when we enter the run to feed and water and collect eggs. He just attacked my dad and sister today.

What can I do to make him realize he can be protective over them but we are not the ones he needs to protect from. He was such a sweet boy before, I really don’t want my family to cook him for dinner.
Send help!

Because he was by himself? That’s the only thing that changed. He didn’t have anyone to protect but himself, before he was in a run alone. He is the only one out of 15 that could free roam before and not a worry in the world. And survived owls, fox and coyotes. Maybe I should just let him roam again. …

Exactly, bc he was alone and did not have a flock to protect. Are there children at your home, or that come to visit? He is a positive danger to them. Even though he is "only" a bird, he can do even an adult a serious injury. Since you are new to chickens and lack experience, taking on the task of trying to "tame", "train" or "correct" him is not recommended for a rank beginner. Nor is it advised to rehome him, as you will just be passing his hazards on to someone else. Sorry you have to deal with him.
