My five Orpington chicks have all turned out to be boys. Like lots of others, I'd prefer to keep only hens, and these boys gotta go! They're all really friendly, but two of the five are friendlier than the rest and roost on my arm when I pick them up. I'd prefer them to go to a home where they would be part of a flock and not eaten for dinner. Please drop me a line if you are interested in any of my five boys. They're 8 weeks old this weekend and were purchased from Tractor Supply from their Straight Run bin...I don't know how a straight run comes out to be ALL BOYS!

Here's one of them about a week ago, and this is my favorite one.

Are you certain "Alice" is a boy? How old is He/She?

8 weeks. The combs on my Orps are HUMONGOUS and bright red. And they have lovely wattles, too, that just keep getting bigger and bigger. To be on the safe side, I was planning on keeping them till they at least let out some kind of crow, but I need to get homes lined up for them before then, ideally. For three of them, I'm 99% sure they are roosters. For another, I'm mostly sure he's a he, and for the fifth, there's a smallish chance it may end up a hen, but I'm thinking probably not. My five red chicks, however, all appear to be hens, with just the barest hint of a comb and no wattles at all. The Orpingtons also tend to spend a lot of time mock-fighting, too. Have you ever seen an Orpington at this age with wattles and a comb like that that turned out to be a hen? If you have, I'd be delighted, because I would love to keep them...my Orps are all so much nicer than the reds.
