BBS Orpington Color Questions

:woot that will be exciting!
I can't wait! I'm still very new to owning my own chickens, though I've wanted them for years and have learned a lot during that time. I've also got friends who have had them for a long time, including one who regularly breeds. So she's a good resource for me.

As for my Orpingtons, I'm getting 12 more straight run chicks around April, and I'm hoping to add all the females from that group and possibly 2 males, just depending on who turns out to be what sex amd what color, lol.

I've got d'Uccles in 3 colors right now and my bantam cochins in several colors. I've got 2 older (15 and 10 weeks) red females, but my other 14 chicks are only 2 weeks old. So I don't yet know who is male or female in that group. I have 3 blacks, 2 partridge, 1 white, and the rest I think are mainly buff, possibly a few reds. Time will tell.

I definitely plan to breed just to grow amd sustain my own flock at first, and for some friends who are interested. I do have an interest in one day breeding to sell, but I know I've got a ton to learn before I'm ready for that.

It sounds like you have a good plan and good support on your journey, that is invaluable!!!

You have some great breeds to start with too :highfive:

The waiting game on the straight run chicks is always such a roller coaster but in some odd way it is fun :gig

Lol it really is. I pick each one up every day and look closely at their combs for the slightest growth or hint of pink. 😆 They look at me like I'm nuts.

I'm very blessed in the support department. I've got knowledgeable and helpful friends, but my husband has gone along with every one of my crazy "gotta have them" moments and he built an amazing coop and run.
