Silkie & (maybe) Serama Hatch-A-Long

:D
Yes, the wait is killing me...

Please pick an egg :D

Can I still use the dry incubation if I added water originally?
That I don't know for sure, if it's still early I'd say yes. If your humidity has been dropping during the hatch I'd just let it stabilize and don't add water again until lockdown, but it needs to be at least 15%.

A high humidity in the early part of a hatch can drown the embryo. The way I look at it, broody hens don't go for a swim, then sit on the nest. It makes me wonder if the whole idea of adding humidity during the early part of a hatch was based on hatching water fowl eggs.

I'll take serma egg #14 please and name it Peewee.:D

Ok.. I'm on Day 6 for the silkies and Day 3 for the Serama...I think I'll just let the humidity drop and check that it doesn't go below 15%...the highest it has been till now is 45%.

#14 it is !

I had to add a little water, as the humidity had dropped to 28% yesterday morning...(Is a drop like that dangerous?).
No, it's not dangerous especially if it's kept to just a few hours. Humidity is an average; however, I wouldn't spike it higher just to average a lower number, just let it even out.

I had learned long ago to keep silkie eggs between 40%-50%, so I just do 45% until lockdown, then 70%.

Ok, I'll just not add water for a few days and just check it doesn't get too low/high.

I'll be candling all of them tomorrow/Wednesday, so I'll see how it looks then.

I'd take the advice of @Debbie292d she's the Silkie Queen of BYC. I haven't tried hatching Silkies yet.

Last year I got whatever I could get my hands on. This year I'm adding colored egg layers to my flock. Who knows what I'll do next year, or even later this year. 🤔
