Free chicken?

They all get free range time, the girls seem to eat less and be better free rangers. They were bolder, earlier. The Delawares are the best boys at ranging. One we call casserole will eat almost anything.

I have learned not all breeds are equal in a very first hand way. Some are better natured, some grow faster, some are wide, some are narrow (EE are not good meat birds

) , some will just camp at the feeder and dust bathe, while others will eat almost any forage in their path. They eat way more with less forage. Suet hangers stuffed with scratch smashed with shortening hung in the coop is a great boredom buster and seems to be eaten happily by all.

We did have hens before we began this, but this was our first roo experience. I can't wait to see how much they weigh. I think the rocks will be around 3-4 pounds, the sussex bigger, the rest smaller. We lost one to a feed container being dropped on him

, but no others lost from the boys.
