free range and will not eat red worms?

i have a rooster and 2 hens that free range 24/7 on our farm. i dig up some red worms to give to them and they will not eat them. i found that odd. i can throw the worms into the lot with my light brahmas and they destroy the worms. lol just wondering why my 3 will not eat.
