Free Range BBB Turkeys

We have two 14w BBB that free range that we plan on butchering at 17-20 weeks. We got ours at the end of feb. Next time we will plan accordingly and purchase in April/may for thanks giving... Or get a heritage breed. Our BBBS follow us around everywhere.

I speak from both experience and reading. After getting heritage turkeys, man can I tell! They are so much more agile and stronger. They just seem so full of life, comparatively. I definitely recommend heritage turkeys for anyone who regularly raises Turkeys and have a bit of pasture for them. From my experience heritage have very high fertility in their eggs, unlike commercial, and mine is just a particularly fantastic mother. So is the Tom!

Brittanimk - thanks for the comments. What type of heritage did you chose? In addition to my 5 BBBs I just purchased 3 Narragansett and 2 Blue Slate poults ranging in age from 3 days to 1 week.

With regard to the BBBs following you around. How true. They are the most nosy creatures I have seen. If I am working on something and I put down a small tool or pencil they snatch it up and take off.

I chose mixes. They are primarily royal palm, but I didn't care too much about breed in particular. I've heard great things about the slates. Big and docile, really good birds.
