I am not sure what makes these little guys wonder like they do.
I have a 50 acre farm, most of it lines a pretty busy hwy. My chicks haven't tried to cross the road yet. But they def. make alot of trips around the 20 acre cow pasture. My chickens will follow me around when I start walking in the yard. So if you chicks do the same thing, walk them to a new place you want them to go. Once they see it is safe and ok they will prob go check it out on there own. If they don't go on there own there is a reason, predator etc. that keeps them near the safety of the coop.
