Free range indian runners.

Can I free range my Indian runner ducks like I do my chickens? They seem so skittish im scared they will just run away and never come back.

It does happen sometimes. if they are used to being fed at dinner time they should come back looking for that meal. How old are they now? do they get along with the chickens and sort of "hang out" together at all? How big is your acreage and is there a lake or a river? Ive heard about ducks going bye bye down the river.

Mine have an enclosed acre to range in but a neighbor lets hers out on an open property. They explore the neighborhood, but tend to stay close to their small home pond. A few have been lost to predators. If you consistently provide food when you want to close them into the pen they should come back. Mine wait for me at the door and race me to the pen for their nightly treat.

We live RIGHT by a creek so it might not be a good idea for us then!
