Hi there. I have a 5 acre farm with practically every thing short of peafowl. I have always wanted to add a pair to the farm but have put off doing so because of their needs of an enclosed pen. there is a pea hen who is for adoption at my local animal shelter and I hate seeing her there in a kennel. All my chickens and turkeys are free range and go into the coop at sun down or roost in the barn rafters or trees. We do have predators but the property is patrolled by 3 guardian llamas and I haven't lost anyone. My question is; would the peahen absolutely need to be in an enclosed pen or could she be free range as well. I know the predatory risks involved but would she fly away or stick around with the rest of the flock??? Would getting a male entice her to stay more or would they leave together? any input would be greatly appreciated!
