For the first time we got a peacock and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to make him not leave the yard.I heard they can jump about 8 feet even with their wings clipped so clipping it’s wings wouldn’t work. We have a coop he can stay in and we are going to try and gain it’s trust so he gets used to being here then let him roam the yard but we don’t know if he will still leave .So does anyone with a free range peacock have any suggestions

Peacocks will roam to the point you may not have a peacock any more. My parents have folks about 1/2mi from the house that own peacocks. They've been in my parents yard, roosted along the road, back in woods, etc.
Years ago I came home from school to find a peacock roosted on my parents chimney. That one came from a farm nearly 2mi away.
They like to roam and cover ground to forage. If you have the space to provide adequate feed and forage, water, and a mate you may be able to keep them relatively close but expect it to still make excursions.

He will leave. May not go far and may return daily for food, but he will leave.

Peacocks also need very large coops/enclosures. I have been told that they do not like enclosed coops like chickens but rather large open pens that allow them to roost at least 8ft off the ground.
They are also very loud. You may not have very happy neighbors if they hear your peacock in the mornings calling from their backyard.
