I had been raising pheasants in a meat bird tractor while I was building their permanent pen. All was going well, but in early September one got out. Saw it, tried to catch it, but it just eveaporated into the woods

I get a call yesterday from my youngest son who says, "Dad, one of the pheasant got out." I asked him to count the birds in the pen, and his count showed I hadn't lost any. I'm thinking, could it be that one bird?

I get home and sure enough, this hen is hanging out, just outside of the pheasant pen, the one she had never lived in. I rig a trap and corner her in it, and my son shuts the door. I retrieve her from the trap and on her leg is that little blue zip tie I have put on late last August.

Good for her for surviving this whole time. Wierd. She must have been drawn in by my cackling roosters.

I had several escapees. They live around here all winter long, from fall, through winter, and up until about 2 weeks ago. Now they are gone. Guessing a predator got them. Cool story though, for sure!
